Bill Gates: The next outbreak? We’re not ready

In 2014, the world avoided a horrific global outbreak of Ebola, thanks to thousands of selfless health workers — plus, frankly, thanks to some very good luck. In hindsight, we know what we should have done better. So, now’s the time, Bill Gates suggests, to put all our good ideas into practice, from scenario planning to vaccine research to health worker training. As he says, “There’s no need to panic … but we need to get going.”

  1. Guessing the message was received that way because most thought:
    1. "Something worse than Ebola!!?? Nevvver!"
    2. "Minus $3 trillion!? Billionaire's are soo disconnected"
    3. "Never in the first world!"
    4. "No country will ever co-invest in medicine and the military. Especially those that are all about their militaries.."

And of all those points, point 4 will still stand come the end of Covid – sadly.

  2. Corona.exe
Gates:, I need the world to install updates. To protect your pcs from viruses.
    Us: psshh updates suck.
    Covid 19
Gates: We must be ready for the next epidemic
Us: pssshh let's fire the pandemic response team

  3. Who else is here because someone told them that bill gates predicted Corona? Dislike me if you're one of them for copying the 1 like=1 person kinda b.s.

  4. Notice how Gates doesn't mention the fact that we also need to stop cultures / countries from engaging in risky, stupid behaviour like eating pangolins, civets and bats (which has been directly tied to COVID-19 AND SARS) as well as bush meat (which was directly tied to Ebola).. We can prepare for these epidemics but we should also stamp out the root cause which is cultural ignorance.

  5. This Coronavirus pandemic is entirely China's fault. Not only due to thier social standards with exotic meats, but also because they were unable to contain it.

And because the world is so reliant on China for cheap labor and production, nobody is willing to call them out for locking things down sooner.

What kind of reparations are they willing to pay for this disaster?

What these billionaires need to start thinking about, is was their saving with cheap Chinese labor really with it, with the amount of damage this pandemic has done to global markets and the economy?

  6. It is amazing how nothing is said about evolution of healing, etc. They speak only of terror and seclusion! They are giving a "Reset" in the Global economy. At the expense of a technologically produced virus in the laboratory with the greatest possible number of transmissions and greater lethality in the elderly! Covid-19 was handpicked!

  7. Was this TED Talk attended by people who have influence? Or just fanboys who don't? If it's the former; shame. If its the latter; pointless

  8. Fucked up, but the worst part is this video itself probably didn't get much exposure in 2015, still when one of the richest and most intelligent men of the world warns you about epidemics maybe you should take a look at it

  9. The fact the spanish flu didn’t kill all humans is beyond lucky. And we don’t care or take advantage of the time or opportunities to get ready given 🤦🏻‍♂️
