Costa Rica’s largest peninsula has one of the largest populations of centenarians on the planet with more residents who are over 80 than anywhere else earth.
What’s the secret to their longevity?
Correspondent Harris Whitbeck visits the people of the Nicoya Peninsula. He tells us why inhabitants of this lush location live such long lives.
The number of people who live to be 100 years old or more is growing. This segment of the population is the fastest growing with more than 450 thousand of them living across the world. Experts say there are many factors that contribute to their longevity and recently they’ve started identifying key traits common to them all. Those traits have also been found in 5 distinct areas around the globe and two of them are in the Americas.
Harris Whitbeck travelled to one of these so-called “blue zones” for “Americas Now.” He spends time with residents and talks to experts on the subject of longevity.
Check out his visit to this picturesque peninsula in Costa Rica where the centenarians of Nicoya are considered “living national treasures.”

The translations not the greatest…
The last phrase is interesting…The Nicoya Peninsula will continue producing centenarians for long time to come.
Lucky for them.
I was born in rural Malaysia. Our family was very poor when I was young. Both my great grands died at 130. I remember tagging along them working in the rice field. They later moved back to Thailand, clearing jungle for rubber plantation. I never get to find out what age they were when they did that, but rough workout they must've been around 100.They were still around when a few great great grand sons and daughters were born.
My grand parents died around 100. My father died around 80. I'm now nearing 60. Great many of my school friends have already passed away, most while their parents still alive.
Far as I know, all were the successful ones in their education and careers and quite rich. They were the type who spent loads of money at pricey specialist hospitals. For periodic preventive check ups when they were younger, then huge huge loads more for chronic illness treatment.
I figure we too can continue producing centenarians – if we live like our great great grand fathers.
Trading that with what we have now? How many will.
Only God knows. The best answer.
what I notice, apart from them eating healthy food, is that they are all slim and have been like this in their younger days too
Look at how large the centenarian's ears are 🤗😁 Anybody ever noticed that among folks who live ridiculously long lives?
Im 27 years old. My great-grandmother is still alive, and my great-great grandmother whom I met, died in 2002! Lol hopefully, I’ll get those genes! Lol
They consume black coffee every day.
seriously, the things that make us not live longer is about bad &negative information that our brain&mind consume everyday

Some of the traits mentioned that were shared by the centenaries like proximity to family, and relationship with God, are traits that pretty much everyone from those times shared in the past. Yet with every decade we grow farther from family and God but live longer in general. I don't think this should even be included. Exercise and diet is different and most definitely must be considered.
They should move to London they are missing out
They most probably weren’t brought up on chlorinated chicken and French fries.
My grandfather is 102 and still surviving despite a positive Covid-19 diagnosis. We are praying he is allowed to come home from the hospital soon. But yes he is never stressed.
The stay at home order has made me realize how much stress affects us all.
Technology is killing the humanity. We all can agree to this. So many chemicals in our foods and very different life style. My grandmother died at the age of 96. She could walk so fast and did a lot of farm work by herself.

First & foremost the family bond. The atmosphere friendly, gentle & peaceful. The sea almost surrounding the country. It brings fresh air into the lungs.
The nutrition's mostly what they cultivate. They eat less fast food with chemicals added in it.
There're few vehicles. No traffic jam like the Big Apple or London.
Living next to the sea, plays a vital role in our health. The oldman & the sea, an example!
